William Henry DUNNING (1899)

William Henry DUNNING was born 19 March 1899 in Walsall, Staffordshire. At the time of William's birth, the family (parents William and Deborah along with their first child, Harry) lived in Proffitt Street. Two more siblings for Harry and William followed: Annie (1907) and Abraham (1910). By the time of the the 1911 census, the family had moved to Croft Street.

Although details are yet to be found, William joined the army at some point during World War I. A photograph of him suggested that he was part of a mounted regiment. He survived the war and left the army but then re-enlisted as a regular at some point after that, I believe primarily due to lack of work.

In 1922, William married Dorothy TATLOW in Shardlow, Derbyshire. They had three children: Zena Dorothy (1923), Gordon William (1924) and Patrick Raymond (1928). At the time of Patrick's birth, the family were living in Basingstoke, Hampshire as William was stationed there. On the birth certificate William's occupation advises that he is in the R.O.A.C (Royal Army Ordnance Corps) at this point.

The 1939 Register records William as living in Nottingham with the family and working as a bus conductor.

At some point prior to 1953 William and Dorothy divorced.

William died in Nottinghamshire in 1977.
